MemberYou know, it is theorized since Dr. Robotnik was messing with time back in Sonic CD, that the Metal Sonic we know from the games came from an alternate timeline where Sonic lost to Robotnik. Weak and beaten, that alternate timeline's Sonic was put through the Roboticization Process and became Metal Sonic.
Seeing this image reminds me of that, and really questions that if that theory is true, it would mean Metal is envious of his 'faker' from the timeline we all know for beating Eggman where his double failed and was able to have all these fun adventures and friends in their eyes. It would cause quite a lot of jealousy and spite, wouldn't it? We certainly saw that in Sonic Heroes when he went all Neo Metal Sonic...

MemberThe main hiccup is that Eggman doesn't convert living things into machines, he merely imprisons living animals inside of robots as a power source.
This image DOES give the idea that Metal is a "shell suit" to contain Sonic, but after knowing everything Metal can do, the only thing that could possibly be left of this alleged alternate sonic would be his brain and a non-specific amount of his head.
