chang'e (east asian mythology and etc) created by terrie smith
Description

Ch'ang O

Chinese goddess of the Moon and Immortality. Hare, older piece. Mucha-style.

Blacklisted

Chang'e and her rabbit companion Yu Tu ended up living on the Moon when thieves attempted to steal the pill of immortality given to her husband, the great archer Hou Yi, and she swallowed it rather than give it to them. She and her pet rose to Moon where Yu Tu became the Moon Rabbit, grinding the elixir of life, and Chang'e became a goddess. Grief-stricken, Hou Yi displayed the fruits and cakes his wife loved and then killed himself.

Just before the Apollo 11 crew landed on the moon in 1969, mission control jokingly asked them to keep an eye out for Chang'e and her rabbit, to which Michael Collins (the astronaut who stayed in the command module orbiting the Moon) replied, "Okay. We'll keep a close eye out for the bunny girl."
