At first, it was a fighting game based on FiM and a loving fan tribute, but then Hasbro pulled their shit when the game was getting too popular. Now it's still a loving tribute to FiM, but also a big "Fuck you, you greedy bastards" from the lot behind it (Including Lauren Faust).

I'll be honest, I don't care for the vilification of predators that they're doing, but other than that, its obvious that a great deal of creative power went into its construction. A part of me wonders if Lauren Faust really has that much imagination, or if it would be more plausible to believe that she can open holes in reality and see other universes.
I didn't know that about the Skullgirls engine, but the way the game looks, it doesn't surprise me.
