The truth is I was hoping there would be a flashback to Nessa's past, that is, in her young Eevee form and Espeon evolution.

It took a delayed impact, but you at least in part called it!

    Now:

Here I go with an overly-long comment again, getting the rambling out of the way before getting to the points.

Despite being so full of herself that she's basically thrown the fight (at least twice, once when she didn't finish Vanessa and right after when she forgot Vanessa's a bigger threat than Alex), and I don't see her getting control of it back again, if there's one place Mandy's confidence seems to be earned, it's in battling.  She has power, versatility and, so it seems, experience.  Even with Vanessa using The Power Of Love, breaking the limits of "possible," and genuinely surprising Mandy twice back to back, she still would have won if she just weren't so completely full of herself.  Which does keep turning my mental gears wondering how she's now used three moves that Gardevoirs can't learn on their own, at least in the games, because she actually seems more in her element here than she did being manipulative, in that she fucked up bad but instead of panicking yet (heavy emphasis on "yet"), she's taking it seriously...even if she's doing so by entering the "if I don't un-fuck myself, I'm dead" phase.  (Also, nice choice of move, Icy Wind was one of my favorite new moves in my G/S days.)

That aside, I mentioned in the last page that as much as I hate Vanessa or Alex hurt, we've seen Alex power through pain and I wouldn't mind seeing Vanessa do the same.  Now we might get that WHILE seeing a bit of Vanessa's past?  Awesome...but tragic.

Fuyuki mentioned she was Vanessa's older sister (and I only just heard they have ages of Vanessa at 36 and Fuyuki at 38, thank you to vFence47 for mentioning that), so it would make sense if she'd evolve first, but I never thought it could have been like this.  This is the first time we've seen Fuyuki as anything other than a very happy and loved/loving woman who had nothing but confidence in how sexy she was and how much her sexiness has grown the course of marriage and kids...until now.

I have to believe that if just touching an evolution stone could do this, access to them is carefully restricted, but this kinda makes me wonder if it's simple enough that some punk could just hyuck an evolution stone at you and, bam, evolved, which has to be a scary thought for someone who doesn't want to evolve.

(Side note that has nothing to do with the comic: I have my own little probably-totally-wrong headcanon for why Bianca is such a sourpuss, but now I also wonder if maybe that's why she is how she is: She seems like the youngest so maybe she's just not old enough yet, but maybe also because for whatever reason, she doesn't want to evolve, at least not into the happiness-based forms.  Which sounds like a horrible life, being afraid of being too happy.)

While it's really sad that Fuyuki probably also had to overcome the trauma of being forced into a body she wanted to avoid, Vanessa being the first one who was there when she needed her makes seeing how close they are and how happy Fuyuki was that Vanessa was looking so much more alive , with Vanessa having possibly been in a similar situation herself where she couldn't love herself, even more loving. This also makes Fuyuki getting THE happiest possible ending in her comic all the better after however long it took her to get there from this flashback, and that ending still warms my heart years later.

Gamma doesn't just bring the romantic/sexual love, they bring the family love too.  The "digital illustrations made with love" motto is still well-earned.

And if Vanessa is thinking this to remind herself there was another time she endured the cold for someone she loves, and/or to she has to keep Fuyuki and her family safe from Mandy too, she's going to rebound hard.

Since we're all sharing our wonders on "what's next?", my guess is this memory is about to springboard Vanessa into breaking her limits (and possibly her gem) again, and whether Mandy has anything left or not, she's about to know she's staring death in the face now.

And, while the plot started taking so much of my attention some time ago that I barely notice the cheesecake anymore, to give attention where it's due...

    1) I wonder if Alex still has a chance to get a swing at Mandy.
    2) Part of me hates to say it, but despite having a heart untouched by virtue, Mandy looks great in black and when she's taking this seriously enough to know she's one more fuckup away from dying, including the thong shots as of a couple pages ago.
    3) That sports bra Vanessa's wearing is earning combat pay for all the work it's putting in.  Now I wonder how it'll hold up to frigid winds vs her glass cutters :3

Maybe because of this accident she is still curious about her looking?

  • Gamma's been keeping me on the edge of my seat for the last few days. I've been really engaged in the story (even prior to the action sequence, but that's added to it), and now that this page is out... well it surprised, in a good way.

It's not how I expected things to go, but I'm enjoying it nonetheless. Gotta say, this comic is more engaging than most works of modern day fiction in my opinion. I can't help but wonder how it'll end. I do hope it's a happy ending, for all parties involved (yes, I'm still holding out a sliver of hope for Mandy's redemption arc).

Although if that doesn't happen, I'd like to share something I came up with while waiting for this page, if my fellow commenters don't mind.

I think a neat idea for the Flareon or Jolteon partner series (which I assume is happening eventually, though I don't expect it. Take your time Gamma, I don't want to leave you feeling pressured by what I say), would be following Mandy as the partner to them. Now my concept for it would be her and whichever the partner is also being incarcerated together. If she doesn't get her redemption arc, perhaps a fun story could be Mandy and the other turning into supervillainesses and wreaking havoc together while building a romantic relationship. That's just me though, I thought that sounded fun.

Wanted to get that all off my chest, and yeah, this part, again, is great. Love the addition to the story. Keep up the great work Gamma! You got me excited to see where this goes!

P.S.: sorry for the long-ass comment everyone, I don't usually do that.

  • 20 years and Vanny still has that exact same pair of short-shorts in Pages 29-33...? Joking nitpick aside, is there a chance we'll get another Fuyuki comic?

I get what Mandy is doing is wrong, but has it ever been implied she was like a bad GF? Sometimes In life, things just dont work out between people. I feel this all could have been avoided if Mandy's ex just wanted to call off the relationship than cheat on her. Sure, it stings but I doubt she'd be doing this if that happened.

pretty sure Dylan broke up with her before starting to date Valerie and iirc she cheated on Dylan. and why immediately assume Dylan cheated on Mandy?

With this information now I feel a little sad for Fuyuki :(

When I just saw the textless WIP, I was like, "What? Fuyuki didn't want to be a Glaceon? And was probably traumatized by it? Nooo D:"

But I choose to believe (and may yet be proven otherwise) that when Fuyuki got engaged/married, Vanessa was so happy for her that it caused her own evolution from knowing her sister was never regressing to how she used to be and was going to be happy from then on. Which, all things considered, may well have taken a while if Vanessa was already in the corporate grind for some time, but means she really was just that happy.

P.S.: sorry for the long-ass comment everyone, I don't usually do that.

First of all: If the mods haven't banned me here, and I haven't been kicked out of Patreon either, for my excessively long comments? You have nothing to worry about, ramble away, we're all a bunch of gushy fans resonating off each other here :D

Second: I was on the edge of my seat when Mandy first threatened Vanessa and Alex. I left my seat when she ambushed them and have been on the floor in front of the screen for the last month and a half. Wondering how this ends for all of them, namely what the last we see of V&A will be and if Mandy has any future at all or if her card's getting punched, has been running circles in my very overactive imagination.

Third: It's funny you mention that idea about Flareon and Jolteon. I had the thought, "Hey, what if, as a curve ball, it turns out there IS indeed a brother/male cousin among the Partners?" Which was already a fun thought, and then I had the crazier thought, "What if somehow he gets involved with Mandy in a positive way? How would THAT work knowing she tried to kill his sister/cousin and (I can only guess) her fiancé/husband? Unless...even the Partners have a black sheep among them that they don't talk about..." I try not to dwell too much on "what ifs" but I've definitely had thoughts about if Mandy got a future comic (I feel like her past would be a pretty sad story, whether she was always a monster and has just gotten worse, or if she was a better person with some screws loose who was taken advantage of and sent into a downward spiral that she can't recognize as such and never got help).

Not that it's up to me, but given the choice, I'd rather Mandy get a friend who actually does have her best interests at heart, maybe even family, instead of someone she ends up screwing because she's more than proven she's not the least bit ready for a romantic relationship. At least, not without a long walk barefoot through Hell first. But now you've got me wondering, it's too late for either of them to be angels, but what if they accidentally find something better to live for than sextortion and murder? Like...each other?

Though first and foremost, she'd have to...not die. Which is only looking more likely, as of this comment.

...Keep all the cheesecake, though, that's just a given no matter what :3

Which, all things considered, may well have taken a while if Vanessa was already in the corporate grind for some time, but means she really was just that happy.

That does add a new bit of a "no seriously, you still love me how I am, right?" to some of Fuyuki's pics, namely the one where she talks about how "like a radiant sun you melted my ice cold heart" (and yeah I went to look that up) which takes a suddenly chilling turn (no pun intended) that her journey to being able to fully give love and accept love was indeed a long and harsh one, so...could be. Though I kinda doubt this specific detail was already decided two years ago (but I can't rule it out either). But I like to think she's mostly teasing...at least 95% teasing with a smidge of lingering insecurity. I can only imagine her husband knew about this part of her past before they were married and she knew she could trust him to keep her from slipping back.

I can't link the page directly due to it being Questionable and this being Safe, but in the first pic Mandy showed up in, long before she had a name, Valerie was telling her off about what she did, and she didn't say it directly and was spiking the football pretty hard.

    However...SHE cheated on HIM:

It highly suggests that all the bad things that we've seen happen to her and that I can only assume are about to happen? She brought them on herself. And that aside, she's, y'know, a sextortionist who wanted to destroy Vanessa's life and threatened Alex's parents at the same time, and now is an attempted murderer. That's pretty bad.

@gjgreener1172 - If you're self-conscious about clogging the page, like I am sometimes, consider doing what I do: Use the section commands in the DText, like this.

I forgot to mention this, but you are correct that it's never been explicitly stated in any of Gamma's pictures what happened. It's some behind-the-scenes lore, basically, so you can take it as canon or not canon until it's actually in one of the pictures.

  • Who knew that winter cold could bring a dove out of hibernation?

The way that the snow moves is really interesting. The way it spirals out from Mandy's hand, the bright light serves as a focal point to draw the eye to the centre of the frame before the spiral pushes the viewer away. The way the snow pushes into the next shows how forceful it really is, emphasising how powerful it is and also giving a sense of continuity between the pages. I love how the texture while in motion is almost smooth and soft, but as it strikes into Vanessa, it becomes hard and jagged. I think it's also very interesting that the way that Mandy uses Icy Wind almost covers her breast, maybe in some small way acknowledging the leap of this comic from the more "traditional" pornographic comic.

The final is really quite touching. The way that snow forms a nature void around it, placing Fuyuki and Vanessa into focus. Their two designs both complement and contrast each other at the same time, Vanessa wearing a blue shirt and Fuyuki in cream colour, both of them wearing each other's colours. Fuyuki's tail is low in sorrow, while Vanessa's is raised high in comfort, and the matching earrings in the only viable ears for either bring together both of their designs. This really shows the care and lengths that Vanessa will go to for others she cares about and shows how much she truly cares for those around her and what lengths she will go to for those that she cares for.

Gamma doesn't just bring the romantic/sexual love, they bring the family love too.  The "digital illustrations made with love" motto is still well-earned.

I think this sentence from Evertide is really quite interesting, as it really does show the skill and craftsmanship that Gamma puts into each one of their artworks. I've said before that Gammainks avoids the use of "meatbag" characters, and I do not like that term anymore. (It just sounds derogatory and mean as well.) However, my point that I wanted to make with that term was that Gamma inputs a lot of love, more than just romantic love, into their artworks. In their artwork you can feel the different types of love and how much they put into each and every one of Gamma's artworks. In Gamma's work you can feel the love of the romances, the way that two people can interlock and can become one. You can feel the love of families in the way that families are always there to love and each other. We feel the love for friends, for people who are always there when you need them.

And in some ways those loves can extend outside of the artwork. In the art you can feel the love the Gamma puts into every one of their pieces, the skill, and the mastery that is put in to make it more than just good enough. And you can feel the love of the fandom that has sprouted from Gamma's work, the way that Gamma's work has touched people, put them on the edge of their seats, and had them begging for more. Gamma's art is filled with love that can't be understated. Made with love indeed.

    Personal note:

If you're wondering where I've been, when I first saw that this comic was being posted, I had the idea to wait for it all to come out and cover it in one big analysis. I thought around my first analysis that we were reaching the conclusion and that I could start working on it soon enough. That was on page 9. It is now page 46. I don't know if my original plans will go through, but for now I think I'll return to more sporadic but hopefully more consistent analysis of this really quite wonderful series.

I take that comment about Mandy cheating in the written lore with a grain of salt as I've done some looking and I haven't found this lore, myself.

    STILL...

Mandy mentioned when she was outlining her plan to Alex that Valerie pissed her off "recently." How recent is "recently">what I said , a while ago, when I said I wished I could analyze pictures like you do and that I hope Gamma sees your comments as encouragement that all the work is worth it and that they're growing as an artist).

In addition to another great analysis of the picture and the story/moods it conveys, thank you for mentioning me, too. It makes me feel like my overly-long comments aren't just a rambly fan whose own art form is writing so on a site like this, writing in comments is pretty much all I have to offer.

    In short:
