Wowie, this animation definitely took something to make as it's my first "proper" animation. It also shows through the scrappy parts of it, but that's mostly because I ended up mentally giving up after all the frustrations

There's just so much that sucks in blender, everything from the speed to the cache system, I also tried making some kind of fluid sim in geometry nodes to questionable success

Probably not going to use cycles for any animation in the future, since this was rendered at 64 (48) samples, yet still took like 19 days, way too much for me :P. The denoiser basically obliterated

Some obvious flaws I noticed that I intentionally left in because I had spent so much time on it already by that point:

  • e v e r y t h i n g about the walk cycle
  • extra noise over the volumetric heavy parts (probably abusing it too)
  • one of the tentacles are prematurely visible at like 0:19
  • the hair physics, way too stiff but it was using a slow python solver so
  • no normals on the "junipers"
  • the tentacle on the left leg is lower poly until about 0:29
    • some of them may even have torsion artefacts because I was using a flawed way to get the normals from the curves I rigged
  • forgot to animate random things, I'm just the kind of person to jump around a lot
  • 1:43 far-clipping plane to blame
  • overall not the best rig (animated this whole thing without any widgets for all the rigs, oops)

    If this is your first "proper" animation, then consider myself intrigued for your future animations, also, kudos to you for doing something more interesting with the tentacles (they have weight or at least they feel more impactful with the slitering around instead of coming from absolutely nowhere)

  • I know that this is a first animation, but I'm beyond impressed. I especially like 1:26, where she gets lifted up in one smooth motion with her clothes falling off. I could watch that part for hours. I hope to see more.
